Brooks Ely made 9 of 9 shots from the floor for 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Glenville State took down the West Virginia State men’s basketball team 92-78 Thursday at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.

The Pioneers (4-16, 3-12 Mountain East Conference) shot a blistering 56 percent from the field, including 45 percent (10 of 22) from the 3-point line, to end the Yellow Jackets’ win streak at six games.

Dwayne Chastain added 17 points for Glenville, while JR Kerr kicked in 13 and Jon Dunmyer and Theo Brown each tacked on 12. Darhius Nunn netted nine points and dished out 10 assists.

For West Virginia State (12-8, 10-5 MEC), Pat Johnson-Agwu posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. Also for the Yellow Jackets, Jeremiah Moore tallied 12 points and Ernest Jenkins recorded 10 points and five assists.

MEC women

Glenville State 128, West Virginia State: Glenville State connected on 24 of 58 3-pointers as it ran past the West Virginia State women’s basketball team Thursday night at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.

The Pioneers (20-1, 15-0 Mountain East Conference) had six double-figure scorers, led by Parris McLeod’s 20-point performance. Also for Glenville, Tayana Stewart and Courtney Davis each netted 19 points, Bhrea Griffin scored 16 and handed out 15 assists and Taylor Parker and Julie Bishop each fired in 14 points.

Aurreshae Hines had a game-high 24 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (8-13, 8-7 MEC), while Jasmine Davis posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Also for State, Jordan Miller tacked on 13 points.

West Virginia Wesleyan 47, Charleston 44: Mari Stewart and Tara Goldman each knocked down two clutch free throws to help West Virginia Wesleyan hold off the University of Charleston women’s basketball team at the Wehrle Innovation Center in Charleston.

Stewart and Stacy Remer each scored 10 points to lead the Bobcats (7-14, 5-10 MEC), with Stewart hauling in seven rebounds. Brittany Stawovy added nine points, while Goldman finished with six points and 11 boards for Wesleyan.

Brooklyn Pannell paced the Golden Eagles with 16 points and six rebounds. UC falls to 9-11 overall, and 6-9 in MEC.
