The Mountain East Conference men’s tournament resumes Friday with four quarterfinal games, and both local MEC teams remain in the hunt.
Both West Virginia State and Charleston try to punch their tickets into Saturday’s semifinals in Friday’s evening session. The Yellow Jackets, who bested West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday in a record-setting 110-76 romp, get top seed West Liberty in the 6 p.m. game at the Charleston Civic Center.
In the 8:15 p.m. game, the University of Charleston and Shepherd face off in the opening their tournament schedules. UC and Shepherd split their regular-season series at one game each, while West Liberty swept its two games against the Yellow Jackets.
In the tournament’s afternoon session, Wheeling Jesuit opens the day at noon against UVa-Wise, who beat Glenville State in the first round. At 2:15 p.m., Fairmont State and Concord square off.
In the semifinals, the WLU-WVSU winner will face the Shepherd-UC winner at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Jesuit-Wise winner will play the FSU-Concord winner at 8:15 p.m. Saturday. The conference tournament final is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Sunday. West Liberty won its first conference tournament crown last season, defeating Fairmont State.
