The University of Charleston men’s golf team posted a 306 in the final round to win its third Mountain East Conference men’s golf title in five years Wednesday at Avalon Lakes Golf Course in Warren, Ohio.

The Golden Eagles won by 13 strokes, carding a three-day total of 907. West Liberty (920) finished second, followed by Davis & Elkins (934), Concord (939), Fairmont State (942), and Glenville State (948).

UC’s Mitch Hoffman, a former Poca standout, finished first overall, carding a 4-over-par 76 on the final day to finish with a three-day total of 223. Charleston’s Erik Ulvang finished second overall with a 225.

West Liberty’s Alex Eastholm and Noah Seivertson tied for third with a 226, and Concord’s Carson Proffitt was fifth with a 228 to round out the all-tournament team.

  • Wheeling won the MEC women’s title. The Cardinals led after each of the first two rounds and shot a 329 on the final 18 to finish with a total of 997, good for a 16-stroke victory.

Glenville State finished as the runner-up with a score of 1,013. Wheeling’s Emily Holzopfel earned medalist honors, shooting an 80 in the final round to finish with a three-day score of 239.
