The West Virginia State University women’s soccer team played the first game of the season on its new artificial turf field and earned a 4-2 Mountain East Conference victory over Notre Dame College Wednesday.
Fran Soares-Cupertino and Brooklyn Pritt scored first-half goals for WVSU. Notre Dame cut the lead in half before State responded with back-to-back goals to lead 4-1 and put the game away.
Karem Rodrigues and Maria Barbosa tallied the second-half goals for the Yellow Jackets. State (9-3-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the MEC) has 25 standings points, good for second in the South Division.
