They tried to play baseball at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston Thursday, but the rains kept coming and washed out those plans.

Thus, the 77th state tournament had to revise its schedule on the fly, moving the Class AA session that was supposed to be played Thursday to the leadoff position Friday, and bumped the Class A session from Friday morning to late afternoon.

Here’s the reworked schedule for Friday, with the Class AA games up first: No. 1 seed Bridgeport, the five-time defending champion, takes on No. 4 Shady Spring at 9 a.m., followed by No. 2 Frankfort against No. 3 Scott at approximately 11:50 a.m. (or 50 minutes after the conclusion of the first game).

The Class A session will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, with top-seeded and defending champion Moorefield meeting No. 4 St. Joseph, followed by No. 2 Charleston Catholic against No. 3 Wheeling Central at approximately 6:50.

The Class AAA semifinals were erased from Friday’s schedule and moved to first-man-up status on Saturday.

St. Albans, the No. 1 seed in AAA, tackles No. 4 Wheeling Park at 9 a.m. Saturday, with No. 2 Hurricane — last year’s titlist — meeting No. 3 Hedgesville at about 11:50.

Those two AAA semifinals will be followed by the AA championship game at 4 p.m., and the Class A title game at approximately 7.

The Class AAA finals are now scheduled for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.

Friday’s weather forecast also looking daunting, with a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms.
