By virtue of Tuesday’s thrilling 90-81 victory over Greenbrier East in the Class AAA Region 3 co-final, George Washington earned the No. 5 seed for the upcoming girls state basketball tournament at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Patriots (16-9) will take on No. 4 seed Wheeling Park (17-6) at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 8 in the state tournament quarterfinal round.

Buckhannon-Upshur (24-1) was awarded the No. 1 seed and plays No. 8 Spring Mills (12-13) at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7. The other first-round AAA games find No. 2 Parkersburg South (20-3) going against No. 7 seed Woodrow Wilson (14-10) at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7 and No. 3 Parkersburg (19-6) tackling No. 6 Martinsburg (18-7) at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 8.

The semifinal games at the state tournament are scheduled for Friday, March 9 and the finals on Saturday, March 10.
