Jake Anchia went 3 for 3 with a two-run home run and Josias De Los Santos tossed for four strong innings of relief, but the West Virginia Power gave up a six-run fourth inning in a 7-2 loss to the Hickory Crawdads Monday evening at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina.
Deivy Florido took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out two in four innings. The right-hander started strong, allowing just one hit over the first three innings, but the Crawdads came alive to plate six runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.
Anchia helped the Power narrow lead in the top of the fifth. West Virginia’s Joseph Rosa walked and Anchia launched a two-run shot to left field, his eighth homer of the season, to close the deficit to 6-2.
De Los Santos came in to relieve Florido in the fifth, and retired the first 10 batters he faced. Hickory’s Shirten Apostel was the lone batter to register a hit off the reliever, lofting a home run to right field to push the Crawdads’ lead to 7-2 in the eighth.
Ronny Henriquez picked up the win for Hickory, allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out nine against one walk in five innings.
West Virginia and Hickory continue their series Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Clay Chandler (5-2, 3.31 ERA) takes the mound for the Power, while the Crawdads will counter with Cole Winn (0-1, 7.56 ERA).
