Grafton softball sweeps twinbill; WVU moves baseball start time on Sunday

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The Grafton Bearcats ran their winning streak to seven games, improving to 7-1 with five-inning wins of 12-2 over Wirt County and 14-4 over Preston on Saturday.

In the first game, the Bearcats scored 10 runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach early.

Frederique Maloley got the win in the circle, giving up two runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and adding two doubles, a home run, three runs and five RBIs at the plate.

Jade Hall and Ashlyn Zbosnik both drove in two runs, with Zbosnik hitting a double.

Aubree Collins was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI.

In the second game, the Bearcats scored the first 14 runs of the matchup, including nine in the bottom of the fourth.

Collins was 3-for-3 with three triples, three runs and four RBIs, while Kaileigh Spiker finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs.

Mia Chambers struck out nine batters in five innings for the win.

Grafton was scheduled to play at North Marion yesterday and hosts Robert C. Byrd at 5:30 p.m. today.

WVU MOVES SUNDAY START TIME: The West Virginia University baseball team’s home game against Oklahoma on Sunday, May 9, has been moved to an 11:30 a.m. start time.

The contest was previously scheduled for 1 p.m.

WVU and OU are set to meet in a three-game series, from May 7-9, at Monongalia County Ballpark in Morgantown.

Tickets to all three games of the series are sold out. However, a limited number of WVU student tickets will be available on game days in pairs of two. Student tickets can be picked up at Gate A or C of Monongalia County Ballpark.

Students are admitted free with a valid student I.D.

Fans are reminded to check the WVU baseball Twitter page for updates on limited player/guest-returned tickets prior to every home game.

If those are made available to the general public, they will be released for purchase starting three hours before first pitch and can be found on WVUGAME.com. Any available tickets can be purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis and are priced at $7.
