The 1988 West Virginia University football team will be honored at the home opener, WVU announced Monday.

The 1988 team went through the regular season unbeaten with wins against Penn State, Boston College, Maryland and Syracuse, among others, before being beaten 34-21 by Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

A special edition commemorative stadium cup will be available during the Sept. 8 game against Youngstown State at Milan Puskar Stadium.

MU WOMEN’S HOOPS: Liz Brown has been named Director of Basketball Operations for the Marshall women’s basketball team, the school announced Monday.

Brown, a four-year starter during her playing career at the University of Richmond, played professionally in Germany after closing her collegiate career in 2015.

MU TRACK: Matt Adams has been named an assistant coach for throwing events for the Marshall track and field team, the school announced Monday.

Adams comes to MU after three seasons in charge of the throwers at Central Michigan.

WVU SOCCER: Senior defender Bianca St. Georges has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week

St. Georges scored on a penalty kick in a 1-1 draw against Arkansas over the weekend for the No. 9 Mountaineers.
