PHOTO: New Purple Heart memorial unveiled at state vet cemetery

Marine Corps veteran Woody Williams (left) unveils the back side of the Purple Heart Memorial at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, which will now be visible from the road as visitors drive into the Institute area cemetery. Williams, the state’s only living Medal of Honor recipient, was presented with a Purple Heart during World War II after being wounded in the leg by shrapnel in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
