PUMPKIN DROP4

PUMPKIN DROP4

Mike Stephens, of Appalachian Electric Power Co. (left), and Jeff Martin, from BridgeValley Community and Technical College, remove a pumpkin from a box painted with a Frankenstein’s monster face and packed by Winfield Middle School students after it was dropped from a power company bucket truck at the 20th-annual Capital City Pumpkin Drop, at Appalachian Power Park, in Charleston, Thursday. Students from West Virginia elementary, middle and high schools followed engineering specifications to design the most accurate and safe way to drop a pumpkin from a designated height and hit a target on the ground without breaking it. Trophies were awarded to the winners. (CHRIS DORST | Charleston Gazette-Mail, via AP)
